CarMax, the nation’s largest retailer of used vehicles, was founded right here in Richmond, Virginia more than 20 years ago to fundamentally change the way used car buying is done. Today, we bring the bright side of car buying to children and families across the country and in our hometown through the community work of our Associates and The CarMax Foundation. CarMax has made it a priority to ensure that we support the communities our Associates live and work by making them great places to live healthy, active lives.

With our commitment to healthy living in mind, the 2015 UCI Road World Championships was the perfect event to partner with. In addition to being a founding partner, CarMax will be giving back to the local Richmond community during the championships with the CarMax KidZone, a children’s play area that will be located inside the FanFest at the Greater Richmond Convention Center.

The CarMax KidZone is a space designed for families with children under 12 years of age and will feature a course for children to learn how to ride Strider balance bikes, a winner’s podium for pictures, and an Imagination Playground. This mobile, block-based play system is made possible as part of The CarMax Foundation’s partnership with KaBOOM!, the national nonprofit ensuring that all kids get the balance of play they need to become healthy and successful adults. The Imagination Playground will be donated to Communities In Schools for use at Richmond Public School’s Greene Elementary School following the championships.

Children will also have the opportunity to participate in art projects and other fun activities through a partnership with the Children’s Museum of Richmond.  For four days during the championships, September 20, 23, 26 and 27, staff and volunteers from CMoR will bring its unique fun to families visiting the CarMax KidZone.

“Our corporate giving, both from our foundation and our investments in Richmond, focuses around family and children and having activities that promote a healthy and active lifestyle. Supporting organizations and events that have the same focus and mission ensures that our hometown is a great place to live,” said Leslie Parpart, manager of community relations for CarMax. “It was a natural connection for us, and we hope that local families and those visiting us will take part in all that the event has to offer.”

The 2015 UCI Road World Championships will bring thousands of spectators from across the world to Richmond giving CarMax the opportunity to showcase our efforts within the local community as well as across the country to a large audience. With 153 locations in 76 markets throughout the U.S., CarMax is a national company proud to call Richmond its hometown. “We’re excited to be partnering with the 2015 UCI Road World Championships and sponsoring the CarMax KidZone, which serves as an extension of our efforts to give back to communities where our associates live and work, here in Richmond and across the country.” said Parpart.
